- What is the difference between spin and pop on a pickleball paddle?
- Spin is the RPM a face imparts on a brushed ball and comes from surface texture and grit retention. Pop is how quickly the face returns energy on flat contact and comes from face stiffness and core response. A gritty face can be low-pop, and a very poppy face can be slick.
- Does more spin make a paddle harder to control?
- No — spin usually adds control, because topspin brings the ball down inside the court. Pop is what shrinks the margin, since a hot face sends the ball out on soft shots before you have finished the stroke.
- How long does paddle spin last?
- Surface grit wears with use. Raw carbon faces typically hold peak spin for a few months of regular play, then settle noticeably below their new-paddle number, which is worth factoring in when a matchup is close on spin.
