Editorial policy
Pickleball Lookup publishes two very different kinds of claim: things we sourced or verified, and things we experienced. This page states which is which, and how we keep them apart.
Review basis labels
Every paddle review carries one of three labels near the top of the page:
Personally tested
Alex or a named Pickleball Lookup tester has physically played with this paddle. Hands-on notes are written by hand and labelled as such; the surrounding analysis is still spec-derived.
Research-based review
Built from published specifications, independent measurements, manufacturer data and Paddle DNA™ analysis — not from personal play testing. We say so rather than implying court time we haven't put in.
Community verified
Spec-derived analysis plus cited owner and player reports from public sources. Community opinion is attributed, never restated as our own finding.
We have not personally played all of the paddles in the database, and the labels say so. Hands-on notes are written by a person, attributed, and never generated from specifications.
How paddle analysis is produced
- — Specifications come from manufacturers and retailer listings, recorded per paddle.
- — Paddle DNA™ traits are computed from those specs with the same formulas for every paddle.
- — Verdicts and comparisons are derived from those traits, then editorially reviewed before publishing.
- — Player feedback is quoted with its source and never restated as our own finding.
- — Independent lab data is used where it exists and cited when it is.
The formulas are documented in the scoring methodology.
How court facts are handled
- — Every court field records where it came from and when it was last checked.
- — Unknown fields display as unverified. We do not fill gaps with plausible guesses.
- — Courts we have visited in person are marked as such, with our own photos and a visit date.
- — Player-submitted reports are reviewed before they change a listing.
Independence
No brand pays for placement, scores or coverage. Outbound retailer links may earn a commission — see the affiliate disclosure — and commission plays no role in any ranking.
Freshness
Reviews show a visible "Updated" date. Pages are revisited when specs change, prices move materially, or a newer model supersedes the paddle. Court listings show the date each fact was last checked.
Mistakes
We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, we fix them in the open — see the corrections policy.
